Shell Houston Open
The Houston Golf Association is well known for its charitable fund raising. Since 1974, its volunteers have generated more than $59.7 million for local causes, with over $2.287 million raised in 2013. Promoting golf for the benefit of local charity has long been part of the HGA's mission statement. The HGA raises money for charity through the Shell Houston Open in three distinct ways: Net proceeds from tournament revenues, direct contributions through the Charity Partners Program and participating organizations collecting monetary pledges through Birdies Fore Charity. The Shell Houston Open also honors active military personnel by offering complimentary admission to the tournament.
