The Heritage Classic Foundation's motto of “Get Your Plaid On” is one that captures the very essence of what this tournament believes. “Get Your Plaid On” represents a unique exuberance and an attitude of community spirit that helps people all across the State of South Carolina. Founded in 1987 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives, the Heritage Classic Foundation has given away more than $23 million dollars in charitable contributions. Proceeds from this tournament have assisted hundreds of groups ranging from medical institutions, the arts, children's programs and education. In 2012, the Foundation distributed $1.5 million to those in need.

The Birdies for Charity program, in its 13th season, also contributed $379,170 within the 2012 amount. The total Birdies distribution has now reached $3.6 million. Each participating charity receives every penny of the donations from this program, plus the Heritage Classic Foundation contributes an additional 20% for every dollar raised.

The RBC Heritage also honors America's heroes by offering complimentary admission to active-duty military personnel and their families with valid identification.
