PGA TOUR announces 2017 PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge winners

December 6, 2017

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.  – The PGA TOUR announced today that the Valspar Championship captured first place from among the 16 tournaments that participated in the 2017 PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge sponsored by Myrbetriq® (mirabegron). Part of the TOUR’s “Together, anything’s possible” charitable mission, the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge is a friendly “vote-for-me” competition designed to raise funds for charity while recognizing the talent, passion and commitment of the TOUR’s more than 100,000 tournament volunteers nationwide who have helped the TOUR achieve more than $2.46 billion in charitable giving.

As part of the program, volunteers at each tournament reached out to friends, family members and co-workers, inviting them to visit PGATOUR.com/Volunteers to vote for their favorite tournament volunteer. At the end of the voting period, the volunteer with the most votes won the opportunity to present a check on behalf of Astellas Pharma US, Inc., the makers of Myrbetriq® (mirabegron), for $10,000 in his or her name. In addition, each tournament had the opportunity to raise an additional $65,000 in charitable funds based on the total number of votes earned collectively by volunteers and the tournament.

As the tournament whose volunteers collected the most votes, the Valspar Championship earned $55,000 in bonus charitable funds that will be disbursed to local charities. The American Family Insurance Championship on PGA TOUR Champions finished second and earned $35,000 in charitable funds, while The Honda Classic received $25,500 in charitable funds for finishing third. Fourth place went to the DEAN & DELUCA Invitational, which earned $20,500 in charitable funds.

“All of the participating tournaments did a fantastic job of motivating their teams, executing creative social media campaigns, and engaging community partners for the benefit of so many worthy non-profit organizations in the communities where the PGA TOUR plays,” said Anne Davis, director of public relations and community outreach at the PGA TOUR. “We are very appreciative of their efforts and congratulate each of our top four tournament winners. Astellas Pharma US, Inc. recognizes the importance of volunteerism and has done a wonderful job championing all TOUR volunteers.”

In all, more than 5,000 TOUR volunteers collected over 200,000 votes during the past three years of the program.
