THE PLAYERS hosts Operation Shower event for 35 military moms-to-be

May 8, 2017

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – THE PLAYERS Championship continued its long-standing support for military families by joining with Birdies for the Brave to host an Operation Shower group baby shower for 35 local military moms-to-be whose spouses are deployed military members.  The event took place today, Sunday, May 7, in the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost military-exclusive hospitality chalet at TPC Sawgrass.  This was the 50th shower hosted by Operation Shower in collaboration with the PGA TOUR.

Sponsored by THE PLAYERS with support from the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation, Chicco and TPC Sawgrass, the “Showered With Love”-themed event was hosted by PGA TOUR player Jim Furyk and his wife, Tabitha.  Festivities included lunch, prize giveaways and an opportunity for the moms to share camaraderie and gain support from other military women in the same situation.  The highlight of the event was the presentation of Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box.”  Each mom received a box containing an array of unique, high-quality products and gift items for mothers and babies that were generously donated by companies including Chicco and Ellie Sparkles.

“For military women who are expecting a baby and whose spouses are deployed or soon to be deployed, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.  “Operation Shower was created specifically to honor these courageous military moms for all they do at home that enables their spouses to proudly serve our country.  We want them to know how much they are loved and appreciated, and provide them with an opportunity to celebrate this special milestone together.”

Special guests at the shower included U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Sean Pybus (Retired) and his wife, Patty; U.S. Navy Captain Sean Haley and his wife, Annamarie; and Kayla Williams, director of the Center for Women Veterans at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Created to help families and children in need, the Jacksonville-based, non-profit Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation collaborates with organizations including the Wolfson’s Children Hospital, Blessings in a Backpack and Community PedsCare to provide the necessary funding to help communities in North Florida become healthier, stronger, and educationally enriched.  Annual events hosted by the Foundation include Hope for the Holidays, Furyk & Friends Concert and the Celebrity Golf Classic.
