ALEXANDRIA, Va.– TopGolf, Alexandria, the world’s premier golf entertainment complex, will give local sports and golf enthusiasts an opportunity to support military members and their families when it hosts a Birdies for the Brave Challenge on Monday, October 8, from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Aubrey McCormick

Professional golfer Aubrey McCormick from Big Break Atlantis and Web.com Tour player Ewan Porter will be among the special guests participating in the fundraising event, where entrants will compete in foursomes alongside military members, wounded warriors and Web.com Tour players in a variety of target golf contests as well as a Long Drive Competition and Hole-in-One prize. TopGolf and TopChip are two games that will be played where you must use your skill to maximize points scored into the targets where accuracy will get your double points.

Proceeds will benefit Birdies for the Brave, a national military outreach initiative proudly supported by the PGA TOUR dedicated to showing support and appreciation to the courageous members of our U.S. Armed Forces and their families.  Since 2005, Birdies for the Brave has raised more than $10 million for eight military homefront groups that provide critical programs and services to meet the specialized needs of wounded warriors and military families, including Navy SEAL Foundation; Wounded Warrior Project; Homes for Our Troops; Special Operations Warrior Foundation; Operation Homefront; Green Beret Foundation; United Through Reading;  and Military Warriors Support Foundation.

"I'm honored to be a part of the Birdies for the Brave event at TopGolf,” said McCormick.  “I have family members who have served in the military and I'm a huge supporter of the SMGA-Salute Military Golf Association.  I'm excited to host this event and look forward to meeting many of the soldiers who have protected our country.”

"I am excited about the opportunity to participate in an event honoring U.S. military members and their families,” said Porter.  “As a proud Australian, I’m honored to support the American heroes who fight alongside our Australian troops in battle and am awed by their patriotism and courage.  I am also thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the unique concept of TopGolf first-hand while raising funds for this outstanding cause.”

Other special guests at the Birdies for the Brave Challenge will include Booz-Allen Hamilton Senior Vice President and former Coast Guard Chief of Staff Admiral Thad Allen (ret.) as well as former White House Deputy National Security Council Advisor and crisis communication strategist Mark Pfeifle, who led the successful communication effort to promote the President’s “surge” of U.S. Forces into Iraq and communication initiatives to de-legitimize al Qaeda.

Van Dorn Street in Alexandria.  Entry into the Birdies for the Brave Challenge on October 8 is $500 per foursome and includes Warm Welcome Breakfast, Raffle Ticket, 2 Challenges, Hole-in-One, Long Drive Entry and Player Bay.  Participants will compete for great prizes, including $25,000 Cash Prize, Taylormade RBZ Fairway Wood and more.  A variety of sponsorship opportunities are also available.  For more information, call (703)220-9072, or visit www.topgolf.com/birdiesforthebrave.
