PGA TOUR Senior Vice President and Executive Director of THE NORTHERN TRUST Julie Tyson participates in prestigious Department of Defense Joint Civilian Orientation Conference

June 14, 2018

PGA TOUR Senior Vice President Championship Management – New York and Executive Director of THE NORTHERN TRUST Julie Tyson was selected to participate in the prestigious Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC) this week, June 10-16. The conference is the oldest public liaison program in the Department of Defense and is the only outreach program sponsored by the Secretary of Defense.

Tyson is one of a several dozen participants—all influential leaders in their respective fields—chosen from a nomination pool of hundreds of individuals for an intense week of hands-on, immersive tours of military installations, along with tactical training exercises and engagements with senior military officials and U.S. Service members. The mission of JCOC is to increase public understanding of national defense and the rewards of military service by enabling American business and community leaders to directly observe and engage with the U.S. military.

“I have been given the unique opportunity to see firsthand the kind of character developed and possessed by our servicemen and women,” Tyson said. “From the precision and efficiency of our Coast Guard and the Marines to the discipline, strength and rigor of the Air Force, Army and Navy, the work our country’s troops do each and every day is truly incredible and inspiring.”

Tyson’s week began at the Pentagon, where she and her fellow participants met with senior officials before traveling to Joint Base Charleston for a day of demonstrations with the United States Coast Guard. Over the course of this conference, Tyson will be exposed to all five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces at installations across the southeastern United States.

Tyson was named the PGA TOUR’s Senior Vice President, Championship Management – New York and Executive Director of THE NORTHERN TRUST in June of 2017 and has quickly made her mark in the golf and sports industries by elevating and enhancing the stature of this FedExCup Playoffs event. She led efforts in introducing essential Manhattan elements of fashion and food to THE NORTHERN TRUST in 2017, held at Glen Oaks Club in Long Island, to make it more identifiable as part of New York/New Jersey Metropolitan culture.

This year’s tournament, which will be played at The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey from August 21-26, has Tyson and her team not only elevating the fan experience, but also will continue to honor the men and women in uniform.

THE NORTHERN TRUST will continue its tradition of paying tribute to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. All Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard members and Military Retirees, along with registered dependents, will receive complimentary admission each day of the tournament, Tuesday through Sunday. In addition, veterans may receive up to two (2) complimentary tickets for each day, Tuesday – Sunday.

Once at the tournament, all military guests, including veterans, can enjoy complimentary food, beverages and a relaxing venue for viewing all the tournament action in the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by United Rentals, a military-exclusive hospitality chalet located on the 16th tee at The Ridgewood Country Club.

Tyson joined the PGA TOUR in 2007, where she spent several years in global business development, playing a key role in forging partnerships with new PGA TOUR title and Official Marketing Partnerships. She began her career with the PGA TOUR working with title sponsors to assist in fully leveraging their relationships to achieve maximum value and impact.
