Phil Mickelson and KPMG: Making an impact together

August 22, 2018

For the past six years, PGA TOUR golfer Phil Mickelson and KPMG, a leading audit, tax and advisory firm, have teamed together for a trio of programs aimed at making an impact in fighting illiteracy and empowering the next generation of women leaders.

Their partnership kicked off in 2012 as Mickelson and KPMG launched Blue for Books, a program which donates three books to children in need for every sale of the blue KPMG hat worn by Mickelson and LPGA Tour players Stacy Lewis and Mariah Stackhouse. In all, the program has donated more than 200,000 books through the sale of these hats.

In 2013, KPMG expanded Blue for Books with the Inspiring Win program.  Every time Phil, Stacy or Mariah wins a tournament, the KPMG Family for Literacy program donates 5,000 new books and their people get together to refurbish a library in a local school in that community.

Mickelson, along with his wife Amy, have also been a key contributor to the KPMG Future Leaders Program.  Founded in 2016 as the charitable arm of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the KPMG Future Leaders Program provides top female high school seniors, selected by the Office of Dr. Condoleezza Rice, scholarships, leadership development training, an introduction to golf and mentorship.

KPMG U.S. Chairman and CEO Lynne Doughtie said, “Empowering women to succeed and lead is a personal passion for me. We are committed to increasing the number of female leaders at KPMG and beyond, and it is important to start early and reach future generations through initiatives like the KPMG Future Leaders Program.” She adds, “Phil and Amy are part of our extended family at KPMG, and their contribution will make a meaningful impact on these young women’s lives.”

Phil Mickelson commented: “As the father of two daughters, I’m proud to support the KPMG Future Leaders Program and its mission to propel young women towards success in their future careers. Amy and I have always believed that education is the foundation for success in life, this Program is a perfect fit for our Foundation.”
