Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches, Inc.
Artists Showcase of the Palm Beaches works closely with inner city youths to promote and display the creative works of Artists of Color. To educate children in an after school, safe setting on developing artistic skills & techniques, leadership skills, community involvement, being successful, making a positive difference and giving back to their community. These objectives are accomplished through the visual and performing arts with the goal of developing an awareness of the need for the educational enrichment of all children and adults, especially through the prism of multicultural diversity. Artists Showcase's history is rich in hands-on exhibits with art instructors, artists, volunteers, students and adults. Founded in 1989 by Dr. Catherine Lowe and several other initial board members recognized a nationwide paucity of venues for ethnic artists and a lack of public school promotion of ethnic artists, so to fill a void in this community Artists Showcase was born as a non-profit 501C (3) corporation in 1995. Several major goals have always been to connect children to a rich cultural experience, improve self esteem, give them a sense of hope and instill positive family values. As well as to celebrate the richness of the artist?s creative expression and, at the same time, to create a broader awareness of the exceptional value of multicultural diversity through a range of educational programs. The Artists Showcase serves an average of about 5,500 children and adults each year, the programs are widely publicized, open to the public and are free. In early 2001, Artists Showcase inaugurated its administrative & art facility at the Historic Jenkins House, marking the first time in Palm Beach County that a permanent venue for ethnic artists and art education classes appeared for the entire general community.
