Community Hospital Foundation
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula is a nonprofit healthcare provider serving the needs of Monterey County and delivering a continuum of care from birth to end of life, and every stage in between. Community Hospital Foundation serves the hospital and its patients by assisting and encouraging donors from every segment of the community. Funds raised by the foundation have helped the hospital meet growing demands for new and enhanced programs and technology while continuing to serve all patients, regardless of their financial circumstance. Primary Stroke Center Initiative Community Hospital has launched an initiative to improve stroke care and achieve accreditation by The Joint Commission (TJC) to become Monterey County's only certified Primary Stroke Center. Hospitals certified as stroke centers by TJC offer teams with specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of strokes. Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in our country and the number one cause of long-term disability. In Monterey County, there are approximately 680 stroke cases annually and Community Hospital cares for the majority of these patients. As a certified stroke center, doctors are able to intervene quickly with the appropriate treatments to maximize optimal outcomes for patients, including the chance of full recovery without suffering disabling effects. New treatments may prevent death and disability in certain patients, but only if they are given within the first several hours after initial symptoms of a stroke occur. Funding for this initiative will allow Community Hospital to hire a director of neurology and fund necessary data collection, training, and public awareness for the certification. The positive impact of successfully treating stroke and saving lives is why Community Hospital is committed to this critical service to the community.
